Saturday, January 12, 2013 - Peshawar—The Health Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has applied for security cover to carry out national anti-polio campaign in the province. According to sources in Health Department, the micro plan for carrying out national anti-polio campaign from January 14 was yet to be prepared after refusal of polio teams’ workers and volunteers due to security reasons. The sources added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to initiate polio campaign without any publication. While, the sources confirmed that the Health Department KPK has forwarded an application to the provincial government for provision of army and police security to the polio teams for carrying out the campaign without any mishap.
It has also been considered to call parents to the vaccination centers for vaccinating their children against polio in spite of door to door campaign. Govt taking measures to overcome challenges: Federal Minister for Communications Alamgir Khan Khalil has said that the present government faced number of challenges including terrorism and was taking all possible measures to overcome the challenges. He urged upon all political and democratic forces to support the government in its efforts to address these issues and challenges.
Talking to various social and political personalities, Arbab Alamgir Khan said that democratic government was the big achievement,result of many sacrifices. Democracy was the gift to the nation by shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and we would no stone unturned to protect this precious gift, he vowed. He said that vested elements would be rejected by the people in the upcoming general elections and only those will win who have delivered to the people. Furthermore, he said that those who were willing to control the power corridors should go for the elections, as PPP would never allow anyone to derail democracy.
Earlier, Arbab Alamgir met with large number of people from his constituency and issued on the spot directives the redress the grievances of the people. Earlier, talking to newly elected office bearers of Peshawar University Teachers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar said that the institutions of higher learning needed to play a proactive role in promoting healthy discussion on issues confronting the nation and help the policymakers in getting them resolved amicably. Vice Chancellor of the university Prof: Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Provincial Secretary Higher Education, Mrs. Farah Hamed Khan was also present on this occasion.
Appreciating the decision of Peshawar University Teachers Association for holding conference on Role of Academic Staff Associations in Promotion of Higher Education, the Governor said people should also realize the need of effective contribution in ensuring their socio-economic well-being and there has to be a conscious effort in developing an environment at the campuses, wherein they could effectively supplement the efforts of the government in realizing this cherished objective. The Governor said indeed intolerance leads to breed violence and the role of educational institutions in promoting constructive social norms in the society cannot be undermined.
The state of educational activities in universities of the province at present, he added, has a positive effect on ensuring balanced construction of personalities particularly the female segment of the society, which, he added, is a good sign as far as the objective of socio-economic uplift of the society is concerned. In response to a request from the delegation, the Governor also conceded the proposal to constitute a committee headed by provincial secretary Higher Education and comprising vice chancellors of the Peshawar based public sector universities to bring further improvement in the academic atmosphere at the campuses. The Governor also assured to help the association in making the proposed moot a real success.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jamil Ahmad and his colleagues while highlighting their point of views also thanked the Governor for his keen interest in ensuring better academic environment at the campus. Govt taking measures to overcome challenges.
