Private sector urged to help educate Fata youth

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar on Monday asked private sector to actively share the government’s responsibility of promoting higher educational facilities in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

“It will help educate the youth to make them an asset not only for their respective areas but also for the country,” he said while addressing the ninth convocation of the Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology here as the chief guest.

The governor said the government was committed to providing the maximum possible facilities of quality higher education to the youth and the wealthy people, philanthropists and missionaries should come forward to help the government for the purpose.“If that happens, only then we could bridge the gap between the educated and uneducated youth of the country,” he said.

Mr Kausar urged teachers to educate their students in a befitting manner, saying this would help the youth excel in practical life and thus, contributing to national development.

He said completion of studies was an important phase in the life of the youth as they were equipped with knowledge to excel in life by their institution.

“It is now for you (graduates) to apply this knowledge in respective professions. You need to remember that no nation can change its destiny without determined and sincere endeavours of its youth to bring about a revolutionary change in the socioeconomic conditions of the people,” he said.

The governor said there was no shortcut to a country’s progress and prosperity, which could be achieved only by sustained efforts of all its citizens.

Earlier, vice chancellor Professor Salim presented the university’s annual report.

He said the university with two campuses and 250 faculty members offered modern academic and research facilities and half of its teaching staff was either MPhil or PhD.

The vice chancellor said the university also offered distance learning courses in the province.

He said recently, Higher Education Commission ranked the university 53rd at the national level and ninth amongst 25 general universities.

The governor gave away medals and degrees to the students, who secured top positions in the examinations.

The function was attended by students, their parents, teachers, notables, educationists and senior government officials.
